Do you perform an annual roof check? If not, you’re heading for issues down the line. As a homeowner, there’s a variety of maintenance you perform year round to keep your home in tip to shape. Checking your roof and performing an annual inspection should be part of that maintenance. Let’s look at how you can perform an annual roof check.

Performing an Annual Roof Check

To perform an annual roof check, you’ll need to check the interior and exterior of your home.

For the interior, you want to check your walls and ceilings for any leaks. You’ll see water stains or buckling near corners. If you have an attic, take a peak in it to see if there’s any leaks or water pooling, along with drafts. If you notice any of the above, you may have a roofing issue that needs to be taken care of by a professional roofer.

For the exterior, you want to take a good look at you roof. You don’t have to get on the roof, you can use a pair of binoculars to get a closer look. You’re looking for any damaged or missing shingles, black spots, moss, mold or algae. You’re looking for any issues where the flashing and gutters meet the roof. If you notice anything out of the ordinary, call a roofer.

By checking your roof once a year, you can ensure you’re on top of any issues with your roof. By failing to inspect your roof, you could be missing an issue that could be repaired instead of replacing it down the line because a problem wasn’t taken care of right away.

Contact a roofer if you’re not sure what to look at once a year and have them come out to inspect your roof.
